For Everything There Is A Season

View From Middle Age Plus

This book celebrates the different stages of life as we go through the "Middle-Age Plus" years.  Carolyn writes, "As we share together an occasional laugh, tear, or smile at a memory, we appreciate that we are able to enjoy this precious stage of life.  This book is a celebration of all of the times of our middle age plus lives."

Thornton has ten sections of the "Times of our Lives":

A Time to be Born            A Time to Laugh

A Time to Keep        A Time to Speak

A Time to Love        A Time for War

A Time for Peace        A Time to Dance

A Time to Heal        A Time to Die

She writes, "Our bodies are not the only things that change as we get older.  Our neighborhoods, our friendship circles, and our priorities also see many changes.  We look back at each time of our life and when we view it through our eyes (which probably have received lens implants by now) we see the beauty and excitement in every time, even the final one."

The titles of the essays in this book speak for themselves as to the humor Carolyn G. Thornton uses to discuss middle age plus.  Some of them are:  "An Ounce of Preparedness is Worth a Pound of Potatoes," "Giving Birth in Your Seventies," "Teaching in Ninety Second Segments," "A Vision in Flannel,"  "How to be a Bore," and "Training Senior Humans" (as dictated to Thornton by Wynkum, Blynkum and Nod, her three cats!)

For Everything There Is A Season, Views From Middle Age Plus walks us through the Ten Times of our Lives with Carolyn Gray Thornton's whimsical and humorous twist to growing older.  "One of these days I will possibly really be old, but until then, I plan to remain middle age plus and to enjoy fully the great times of each season".
